Or we could respect her wishes and refer to her as Regina. Seriously, there is nothing to gain in annoying her.

Technically, names has a lot to do with ones personality as you had to grow up with it and with its meaning and how your surrounding can view you thought it. Not easily noticeable, but it works.

For example you see that Regina has expressed desire NOT to have nicknames. Guess she has some history of people replacing "R" with "V". That leaves its marks.

If I'd prefer to use a nickname for whatever reason, that doesn't offend her why shouldn't I be able to?

She asked us to call her "Regina," she didn't ask us to make up a new nickname for her. Honestly, is it so hard typing one extra letter and respecting her wishes? Even if you may not see what she said as an outright "no" to nicknames, why take the chance of offending her? Play on the safe side and avoid annoying her whether your intentions may be good or bad I say.
